FIDE World Amateur Open Chess Championship 2023
Desandi Dihanda Gamage, a student of Sirimavo Bandaranaike Vidyalaya, excelled in the FIDE World Amateur Open Chess Championship 2023, securing the second position in the under-2000 women category.
The event took place in Muscat, Oman, from November 2nd to 10th, featuring 86 participants representing 56 countries. Desandi’s outstanding achievement brought honour to her motherland and marked a noteworthy milestone six years after 2017.
To commemorate her success, a celebratory event was held at her school on December 6th, 2023, graced by the presence of the school’s principal.

Childrens Day 2023
Sirimavo Bandaranaike Vidyalaya celebrated the Annual Children’s Day on the 02nd of October 2023, joining with St. Mary’s Sinhala Mix School, Colombo 04. Emphasizing the theme of ‘Inclusion for every child’ we enjoyed Sanisa’ 23, a musical program organized by the Eastern Music Unit in the school. All the sisters & brothers from St. Mary’s Sinhala Mix School and St. Paul’s Girls School, Milagiriya enjoyed the day with Sirimavians.
